Keenan Davidse carded his second successive three-under-par 68 on Friday to climb into a share of seventh at the halfway mark of the Challenge Tour’s Farmfoods Scottish Challenge at Newmachar Golf Club in Aberdeenshire.
Davidse overcame a difficult start after he teed off on the 10th, and he had two bogeys on the card by the time he reached the 13th. But he got things together in a big way with a birdie on 15, and eagle on 16 and another birdie on 17 to turn on 64, two-under-par. He made two birdies and a bogey on his homeward nine, and, at the end of the day, he was on six-under through 36, three behind the leader.
Jordan Gumberg of the United States had an eagle, six birdies and a bogey on his way to a seven-under 64. At nine-under, he led by one from Jonathan Caldwell of Northern Ireland, with five players on seven-under in a share of third. Davidse shared eighth with two other players.
First-round leader Casey Jarvis had a one-over 72 in the second round, and he slipped to a share of 11th on five-over. Fellow-South African JJ Senekal had three birdies and two bogeys in his one-under 70, and, at four-under, he was in a share of 17th.
Brandon Stone had a two-under 69 to move to two-under and a share of 47th to make the cut on the number.
Jaco Prinsloo and Haydn Porteous missed the cut, while Darren Fichardt withdrew after his opening six-over.
