Wilco Nienaber fired a stunning seven-under-par 63 on Saturday at Galgorm Castle to climb 13 places into a share of second after the third round of the DP World Tour’s ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics at Galgorm Castle Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
It was a quiet start for Nienaber with just a single birdie on his front nine, which came on the second hole. He birdied the 10th to start his homeward nine, and then he made five birdies in a row from the 12th to the 16th. That took him to eight-under for the tournament, six off the lead which was held by England’s Daniel Brown on 14-under after his third round of three-under-par 67. Nienaber shared second with Alex Fitzpatrick, last week’s Challenge Tour winner who had a third-round three-under 67.
With the course being shared with the Ladies European Tour’s and LPGA Tour’s version of the ISPS HANDA World Invitational, there was a cut to the top 35 and ties after the third round, but no other South African had survived the 36-hole cut to push for Sunday action.
