Jaco Ahlers moved into second place on his own on Friday with a second round of five-under-par 67 in the Asian Tour’s St Andrews Bay Championship.

Ahlers made six birdies and a bogey as he moved 11-under-par. That put him three shots behind the leader, David Puig of Spain, who reeled off four birdies in a row on the closing four holes on his way to his eight-under-par 64. One stroke behind Ahlers in a share of third on 10-under was a group of seven players.

Yurav Premlall had his second successive three-under-par 69 to move to six-under at the halfway mark and a share of 21st. He had an eagle, four birdies and three bogeys on his card. Neil Schietekat was a shot further back in a share of 27th on five-under together with Ian Snyman after they had rounds of 68 and 72 respectively. Jbe’ Kruger was on four-under after a two-under 72 took him to a share of 39th together with Dean Burmester who had a 66.

MJ Viljoen missed the cut despite a second-round 68.
