After two opening rounds of one-under-par each, Jaco Ahlers pulled a four-under-par 66 out of the bag on Saturday to move inside the top 20 after the third round of the Asian Tour’s SJM Macao Open and Macau Golf and Country Club.

Ahlers rounded off his third-round efforts with an eagle-three on the final hole, which made up for his single bogey of the day on the 17th. He added three birdies to his tally, and he will head into the final round in a share of 19th place.

At six-under, he is a sizeable 10 strokes behind the assured leader, Rattanon Wannasrichan of Thailand, who had a three-under 67 to move to 16-under through 54 holes. Wannasrichan was a shot clear of countryman Gunn Charoenkul, with another Thai, Pavit Tangkamolprasert in third on 11-under together with Liu Yung-hua of Taiwan.

Ahlers wasn’t the leading South African: One stroke in front of him in a share of 16th was Ian Snyman, who carded a two-under-par 68 for his third round.

Yurav Premlall, like Ahlers, produced a four-under 66 in the third round, his five birdies and a bogey lifting him to four-under for the tournament and a share of 29th.

Daniel van Tonder had a two-over 72 and slipped to a share of 38th on two-under-par, while David Meyers had a three-over 73 and, at three-over, was in a share of 59th.
