The South African challenge largely fell away on Saturday, but Thomas Aiken carded a one-under-par 69 to make the third round cut on the DP World Tour’s ISPS Handa World Invitational at Galgorm Castle in Country Antrim, Northern Ireland.
His two birdies and a bogey took him to one-under for the tournament, 10 shots off the pace of the man who has led from the start, Ewen Ferguson of Scotland. Ferguson had a two-under 68 to move to 11-under for the tournament after his course-record nine-under 61 in the first round. He leads by three from John Catlin of the United States.
In a share of 21st with Aiken was Wilco Nienaber, who had a one-over 71 in the third round.
Deon Germishuys and Bryce Easton missed the third-round cut by one shot after each had a third-round one-over 71.
With the women’s tournament being played at the same time and on the same course, the third-round cut was used to keep the final-round field to a manageable size.
