Thomas Aiken climbed a further 28 places on the latest Official World Golf Ranking list published this week as his share of 17th in the BMW International Open on the DP World Tour showed evidence that his return to the top flight is well and truly underway.
He made his way inside the world’s top 400 according to the official list, and he has cemented his return to a place inside South Africa’s top 25, where he most certainly belongs. He is ranked 393rd.
It was a quiet week for most of the other South Africans inside the country’s top 25, with last week’s big climber, Aldrich Potgieter, who reached a career-high of 320th last week after finishing eighth at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Memorial Health Championship, slipping six places.
Solid showings on the DP World Tour by Brandon Stone and Louis de Jager saw them climb eight and nine places respectively to 355th and 356th, while Jaco Ahlers got a boost from his Asian Tour exploits in Morocco, climbing two spots to 387th.
Shaun Norris had a good week in Japan, sharing sixth in the Japan PGA Championship on the Japan Golf Tour, and he was up three spots to 329th.
Dylan Frittelli was the beneficiary of the bloated number of points available on the PGA Tour, no matter what the strength of the field is, as his share of 52nd in the John Deere Classic saw him nonetheless climb two places to 260th.
South Africa’s top-ranked player remains Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who was down two spots to 40th after a week during which he didn’t play.
