Casandra Alexander clawed her way into the top 20 on Friday in the second round of the Ladies European Tour’s Lalla Meryem Cup at the Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar es Salam in Rabat, Morocco with a level-par 73.

The winner of the Sunshine Ladies Tour’s season opener, the SuperSport Ladies Challenge at Sun City last week, Alexander battled to an opening one-over-par 74, and a tough start to her second round was not too promising. She made two double-bogeys and a bogey on the front nine in her second round, countered by three birdies as she turned in two-over 39. She was bogey-free on her way home, however, and two birdies brought her back to level-par for her round.

At one-over for the tournament, she was in a share of 12th ahead of the final round. The lead was held by Sweden’s Maja Stark, who carded a six-under 67 to move to eight-under for the tournament and a two stroke lead over last week’s winner in Kenya, Ashok Aditi of India. Aditi, in turn, was two strokes clear of Linnea Strom of Sweden who was on four-under in third. Another Swede, the superb Linn Grant, was in fourth on three-under after she carded a three-under 70 in the third round.

Alexander shared 12th with five other players.
