Casandra Alexander carded a three-under-par 69 on Friday to move into a share of 20th at the halfway mark of the Ladies European Tour’s KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle.
Alexander made four birdies and a bogey to move to five-under-par for the tournament. That was seven strokes behind the lead which was held by Sweden’s Moa Folke, who blazed around the course in 10-under-par 62 to move to 12-under and a two-shot lead over Denmark’s Smilla Tarning Soenderby, Carmen Alonso of Spain and Klara Spilkova of the Czech Republic.
It was a sensational day for the 27-year-old Folke who started with a birdie on the first and then added another on the third before three in-a-row on holes six through eight to make the turn in 30 (five-under). A dropped shot on the 11th was no bother for Folke as she then rolled in four birdies consecutively on holes 13 through 16 before finishing her day with an eagle on 18.
One shot further back than Alexander was Nicole Garcia, who followed up her opening four-under with a level-par 72. At four-under for the tournament, she was in a share of 28th. Also on four-under was Nobuhle Dlamini of eSwatini, who had a fine five-under 67 in the second round.
Lejan Lewthwaite, Monique Smit and Stacy Bregman missed the cut.
