Casandra Alexander opened with a three-under-par 69 on Thursday in the first round of the Ladies European Tour’s Amundi German Masters at the Golf & Country Club Seddiner See to be in a share of 21st.

Alexander started with a couple of pars before dropping her first shot of the day with a bogey on the fourth. She made birdie on the par-five sixth, but dropped another on the seventh. She got things back to even-par with a birdie on eight, and she turned in 36. Her homeward nine was bogey-free, with birdies on 13, 16 and 17.

That put her six shots behind the leader, Jessica Karlsson of Sweden, who fired an opening round of 63. The 29-year-old, who began her round from the 10th tee, carded a bogey-free day with six birdies in her first nine holes and three birdies in her final five holes.

“It was one of those days where everything went right,” said Karlsson. “I hit a lot of fairways, I hit 17 greens and from there I holed some great putts, so everything was with me today. “I think there were some nice pin positions today, that you could really attack. I have played well in the last couple of events, but I was just not holing putts, so I was waiting for that to happen and today it did.”

Five players were in a share of second place three shots back on six-under-par.

One stroke behind Alexander, in a share of 33rd, was Lejan Lewthwaite, who had a two-under 70. Also on two-under was South African Women’s Open champion Lee-Anne Pace.

Stacy Bregman was on six-over.
