There were two early bogeys on her scorecard, but Casandra Alexander kept things together to card an opening two-under-par 70 on Thursday in the first round of the Ladies European Tour’s Amundi German Masters.

She also started her homeward nine with two early bogeys, but, just as she did on the front nine, she got things back on track, and was six strokes off the lead. Northern Ireland’s Olivia Mehaffey carded an eight-under-par 64 to lead by one from Indian amateur Avani Prashanth. Sweden’s Johanna Gustavsson and Meghan McLaren of England were in a share of third on six-under, and there were four players in a share of fifth on four-under.

Alexander bogeyed the second and third holes, but birdies on four and six saw her turn in level-par. She dropped shots again on 11 and 12, and she rectified that with a run of four successive birdies from the 12 to the 15th. She was in a share of 15th.

Lejan Lewthwaite opened with a four-over-par 76, and Stacy Bregman had a six-over 78. That left both with a lot of work to do if they are to make the cut and play on the weekend.
