Casandra Alexander carded her best round of the tournament on Sunday as she signed for a three-under-par 69 in the final round of the Ladies European Tour’s Tipsport Czech Ladies Open to finish in a share of 26th.

Alexander made three birdies on each nine, with two bogeys on the front nine, and just one on the homeward loop, and she moved to five-under for the tournament, nine strokes behind the winner, amateur Jana Melichova of the Czech Republic. Melichova won by one from countrywoman Klara Spilkova and Sweden’s Nicole Broch Estrup.

“It’s a dream come true,” Melichova said. “I always planned to play LET and I always wanted to win a title and I succeeded today, I’m incredibly happy.

“I was mainly nervous, but I think I handled that stress really well. I was really happy with my game and everything was perfect. Even three bogeys in a row didn’t get me down because I had people here and they were cheering for me, so I just wanted to make more birdies.”

Alexander’s performance lifted her to 14th on the Race to Costa del Sol rankings after 12 tournaments. Lee-Anne Pace remains South Africa’s highest-placed player on that list, in seventh. Alexander is five places ahead of Nicole Garcia in 19th.
