Oliver Bekker made six birdies in a row on Saturday as he moved into fourth place alone after the third round of the DP World Tour’s Ras al Khaimah Championship at Al Hamra Golf Club in the UAE with a six-under-par 66.

Bekker started his magical run on the third, and reeled off five more in succession until the eighth, and he reached the turn in six-under 30. There were to be no more gains for Bekker on the second nine, unfortunately, but he consolidated his place in fourth on 15-under-par, five shots off the lead at 20-under held by Dane Nicolai Hojgaard.

Hojgaard went even lower than Bekker with his eight-under 64 – and that included two bogeys – and opened up a three-stroke lead over Scotland’s David Law in second. Finn Tapio Pulkkanen also carded a 64 to move into third place on 16-under, one ahead of Bekker. One shot behind Bekker in a share of fifth are Robert MacIntyre of Scotland, American Johannes Veerman, England’s Jordan Smith and Belgian Thomas Detry.

Behind Bekker, Shaun Norris signed his third round off with an eagle for a four-under-par 68 as he moved into a share of ninth place on 12-under-par. George Coetzee had a two-under 70 for a share of 23rd, Daniel van Tonder carded a 69 to move to six-under and 41st, while Brandon Stone let things slip with a four-over 76 seeing him slide down to a share of 49th on five-under.

Richard Sterne was on four-under, Zander Lombard on three-under and Thriston Lawrence slumped to level-par in 72nd.
