Oliver Bekker atoned for his closing triple-bogey in his first round with a bogey-free seven-under-par 65 on Friday in the second round of thee Challenge Tour’s Danish Golf Challenge at Odense Eventyr Golf in Odense, Denmark.
Bekker made two birdies in his opening nine after starting on the 10th, and turned on the magic on his homeward nine with five birdies as he moved his tournament total through 36 holes to nine-under par. He was in third place heading in to the weekend.
In the lead was Norway’s Andreas Halvorsen on 12-under after his second round of six-under 66 which included two bogeys. He led by one from Gudmundur Kristjansson of Iceland who closed his round off with an eagle on 18 for a five-under 65.
Bekker was one clear of three players on eight-under in a share of fourth, with seven players in a share of seventh on seven-under.
Two shots further back were Louis Albertse and Deon Germishuys in a share of 18th. Albertse hit his straps after an ordinary first round with a five-under 67 which included a bogey. Germishiuys alkso dropped a shot in his four-under 68.
Wilco Nienaber was a further shot back with six birdies in his three-under 69 which also, typically, contained a bogey and a double-bogey. Robin Williams held on for a level-par 72 in his second round to stay at three-under and in a share of 42nd.
Benjamin Follett-Smith of Zimbabwe, Dylan Naidoo, Justin Walters, Bryce Easton, Albert Venter and Tristen Strydom all missed the cut.
