Oliver Bekker fought off a horror start on Friday in the second round of the DP World Tour’s Hero Indian Open at DLF Golf & Country Club in New Delhi to reach seven-under-par through 14 holes when play was suspended.

He made a double-bogey on his second hole, the 11th, after starting his round on the 10th, and then dropped another shot on the 12th. But he rectified matters with four birdies in a row from the 13th, and then picked up another shot on the 18th to turn in two-under. He made three more birdies and a bogey before the suspension.

But he dropped another shot on the resumption on Saturday morning, and finished the second round on six-under for the tournament, in a share of 16th place.

He was eight strokes behind the leader, Keito Nakajima of Japan, who carded a second successive seven-under-par 65 to move to 14-under and a two-shot lead over France’s Romain Langasque. Matteo Manassero of Italy was third on 11-under-par.

Pieter Moolman was the next-best South African after 36 holes at two-under after his level-par 72 in the second round. He was in a share of 49th, together with, amongst others, Brandon Stone. Stone had a one-under 71 for the second day in a row.

Behind them, Daniel van Tonder made the cut on the number at one-under. Jaco Prinsloo missed the cut at seven-over-par after a second-round three-over 75. Jayden Schaper and Dylan Mostert both retired during the suspension, and were not going to make the cut with some big numbers on their cards during their second rounds.
