Oliver Bekker played himself into a share of third on Friday when he carded a second round of five-under-par 67 in the Challenge Tour’s Challenge de Cadiz at Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri in Cadiz, Andalucía, Spain.
Bekker started his round on the 10th, and made three birdies on each of the nines. He dropped a shot on his last hole of the day, the ninth, and, but for that, he would have been in a share of the lead.
As it was, he was in a group of nine players on six-under for the tournament. They were all one behind the leaders, Niklas Lemke of Sweden and Marc Hammer of Germany. They carded rounds of three-under 69 and five-under 67 respectively.
Albert Venter had a two-under-par 70 to move to four-under through 36 holes and a share of 18th with, amongst others, Benjamin Follett-Smith of Zimbabwe.
Justin Walters and Deon Germishuys were on three-under after rounds of level-par and one-under respectively, and they were in a share of 29th.
Dylan Mostert made the cut on one-under for the tournament, as did Robin Williams and Wilco Nienaber on level-par.
Bryce Easton, Tristen Strydom, Louis Albertse and Luke Jerling all missed the cut.
