Christiaan Bezuidenhout was reduced to the role of cheerleader on Saturday as Presidents Cup International Team captain Mike Weir benched him for both sessions on a day when the US Team re-established their grip on the match.
The Saturday fourballs and foursomes line-ups were inexplicably identical for the Internationals as they went down 3-1 in each session. The match is at 11-7 in favour of the US Team ahead of the Sunday singles.
In Saturday morning’s fourball session, the US found it’s groove again, going 3-1 to bring the score to 8-6 over the Internationals. Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa of the US Team scored the first point on Saturday, taking down Internationals Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith. Internationals Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim struck back with a 4-and-3 victory over Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark. Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele scored another point together over the Internationals with a 3-and-2 takedown of Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes. Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns delivered the final point in the session with a 2-and-1 win over Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im.
Bezuidenhout will take on Brian Harman in his singles match.
