Christiaan Bezuidenhout was only able to mark time on Friday as he shot a level-par 72 in the third round of the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California.
His round of two birdies and two bogeys, together with his pair of three-under 69s in the first two rounds, saw him slide 15 places down the leaderboard to a share of 38th. His six-under-par total left him eight shots off the lead which was shared by American Will Zalatoris and Australia’s Jason Day. They were one shot ahead of England’s Aaron Rai and world number one Jon Rahm in a share of third.
Bezuidenhout’s bogeys came on the fourth and the 13th. He missed the green with his approach on the fourth, and was unable to get up and down to save par when he blew his six-footer for par nearly two feet past the hole. On 13, he completely messed up his third shot to the green on the par-five, when he hit it just 48 yards of the 92 he needed, and pulled it left. Then he chipped his fourth over 10 metres past the hole and two-putted for bogey.
He’ll be looking for a good finish in the final round to try and get inside the top 20.
