Christiaan Bezuidenhout carded a four-under-par 68 on Saturday to set himself up for a shot at a top-10 finish in the PGA Tour’s Players Championship.
At nine-under-par through 54 holes, he was eight strokes behind the leader, Xander Schauffele of the United States. Schauffele had his second seven-under 65 of the week to move to 17-under and a one-stroke lead over the halfway leader, US Open champion Wyndham Clark.
Bezuidenhout did all his scoring on the front nine, opening with a birdie on one and a bogey on two. He made four birdies ahead of the turn after that, on four, six, seven and nine. But he was unable to pick up any shots on the homeward nine, missing out on a makeable birdie putt on the par-five 11th and hitting his tee shot in the water on 12 before salvaging par there.
