Jonathan Broomhead’s win on the Sunshine Tour last week gave him his best performance ever on the Official World Golf Ranking list, as he climbed 113 places to a career-high of 311th.

Broomhead’s fourth Sunshine Tour victory came at the SunBet Challenge hosted by Time Square at Wingate Park, and it brought him 4.32440 points, which was more than those he won for his victories in the Tour Championship and the Blue Label Challenge. It was also his first victory this year in a career that is rapidly bourgeoning, and is characterised by consistent hard graft and commitment.

He also got a multi-win bonus points allocation of 3.02708 points, 70 percent of the total he took for winning the title. That’s because it was his fourth win in the current ranking cycle.

He started the year in 347th place, and, before his win at Wingate Park, had slipped somewhat to 424th. In his current position, he has climbed to 16th on the official rankings list of South Africa’s top 25 players.

The other South African who got a substantial boost on the official list was Darren Fichardt. Even though he has started easing his way onto the senior circuits in Europe and in the United States, he remains a solid performer on the DP World Tour. He jumped 64 places to 487th, thanks to his share of 13th in the Betfred British Masters. That makes him currently the 25th-best South African on the rankings.

South Africa’s top-ranked player remains Aldrich Potgieter, who was down two places to 67th.
