Blaauw up 168 places on rankings after weekend runner-up finish

While we watch the upper reaches of the Official World Golf Ranking list closely, there are often impressive feats lower down the list, as there was when Jacques Blaauw jumped 168 places on the latest release this week.

Blaauw finished second in the Sunshine Tour’s Limpopo Championship at Euphoria at the weekend, and that saw him climb from a lowly 1,000^th position to 832^nd. While he’s a long way off his highest-ever ranking of 173^rd, reached a couple of weeks after he won the Mopani Redpath Zambia Open in 2015, he was at least able to reverse a long downward trend which saw him sink as low as 1,136^th after the SDC Open, the Challenge Tour and Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned tournament at Zebula in January.

The winner of the Limpopo Championship, Deon Germishuys, also had a good climb up the list as a result of his victory. He was up 38 places to 332^nd. His highest ranking was 221^st after his third place in last year’s KLM Open on the DP World Tour.

Also up 38 places from the Limpopo Championship was Dylan Mostert, who climbed to 640^th as a result of his share of third at Euphoria.

South Africa’s top golfer remains Christiaan Bezuidenhout. At 56^th after a two-place improvement from his share of 25^th in the Valero Texas Open, he unfortunately misses out on a last-minute invitation to August National for the Masters.

Garrick Higgo got a nice boost from his performance in Texas: He was up eight places to 176^th from his share of 33^rd.
