A bogey on the final hole on Sunday saw Wilco Nienaber slip out of fourth place alone in the DP World Tour’s ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.
It was a frustrating day for the South African as he followed a superlative third-round 63 with a round that was 10 strokes worse. He got off to a bad start with a double-bogey on the first, and he was able to make just two birdies in the whole final round. He made another double on 13, and then came the three-putt bogey on the last hole when he missed a three-footer for par.
In the end, he finished the week on five-under-par in a five-way share of fourth, 10 strokes behind the winner Daniel Brown of England. Brown made is a wire-to-wire win for his first title on the DP World Tour. Brown was five strokes clear of runner-up Alex Fitzpatrick, with Eddie Pepperell in third on seven-under.
His performance did see him climb 20 places on the Race to Dubai Rankings as he edged up to 124th. At this stage, the likely cut-off for retaining playing rights for the 2024 season on the DP World Tour is 118th.
