When play was suspended on Friday in the second round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Panama Championship at Club de Golf de Panama in Panama City, Barend Botha had climbed 23 places on the leaderboard into a share of fifth.
After the South Africa’s opening one-under-par 69, during which he disappointingly finished with a bogey, Botha dropped another on the second hole of the second round. But he gathered himself and made two birdies ahead of the turn and another two on his way home.
At four-under-par, he was four strokes off the lead which was held by Canada’s Stuart Macdonald, who went three-under in his second round to reach eight-under-par. The Canadian was one clear of Argentina’s Jorge Fernandez Valdes, and two ahead of Ian Gilligan of the United States who had one hole left to play in his second round.
Botha shared fifth with Americans Ian Holt and Taylor Montgomery.
