Barend Botha went one better in his second round on Friday and his seven-under-par 64 lifted him into a share of 10th at the halfway mark of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Compliance Solutions Championship.
Playing at the at the Patriot Golf Club in Owasso, Oklahoma, Botha overcame a bogey early on in his round on the fourth after his birdie on the third, and he made seven more birdies without dropping another shot as he reached 13-under-par through 36 holes.
That put him a substantial seven strokes off the lead, which was held at 20-under-par by Belgian Adrien Dumont de Chassart, who made an eagle and eight birdies in his 10-under 61 in the second round. He led by four from three players, Pontus Nyholm of Sweden, China’s Zecheng Dou and American Blades Brown.
Upon conclusion of this week’s tournament, the top 75 players on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List will qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance, the last of four season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Finals events.
Botha was projected to climb to 56th, and will probably play in that event, as will Christo Lamprecht, who had a second round of four-under 67 to move to nine-under and a share of 41st. He was projected to slip one place to 12th in the rankings.
MJ Daffue will not make the Tour Championship: He missed the cut after his 70 in the second round, and is projected to stay in 119th place.
