Christiaan Bezuidenhout jumped 22 places on the leaderboard on Saturday with a third round of three-under-par taking him to level-par for the tournament and a share of 20th in the PGA Tour’s Signature Event, the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California.
After his opening four-under 76 had left him towards the bottom of the limited 76-man field, his second round of one-over assured him of making the cut which fell at five-over and saw 22 players miss out on the weekend.
In his third round, he had an early bogey which threatened to leave him in the lower reaches of the leaderboard. But he made three birdies up to the 14th hole which kept him in the realms of respectability. A bogey on 15 was a small setback, but he holed his approach from 152 yards on the par-four 17th for an eagle.
The tournament is being led by Patrick Rogers at eight-under-par. He’s one shot clear of fellow-American Denny McCarthy. Neither of them has won a PGA Tour title yet. Ludvig Aberg is one shot further back on six-under, after he aced the third hole.
World number one Scottie Scheffler is in a share of eighth on three-under after a third round of 76, together with Rory McIlroy, who had a two-over 74.
