Jonathan Broomhead got a nice 35-place boost on the latest Official World Golf Ranking list issued this week, climbing to 374th place after his second-place finish in the Sunshine Tour’s Gary & Vivienne Player Challenge last week.

Since missing the cut at the Joburg Open and the Investec South African Open Championship, Broomhead has pulled off four top-10 finishes in South Africa – at the end of last season on the Sunshine Tour, and at the start of the 2025-26 local season. He is moving closer to his career-high ranking of 337th, achieved after his share of third in the Mediclinic Invitational in January.

He was not the biggest climber on the rankings from that tournament, however. The winner Malcolm Mitchell was up 223 places to 584th from 807th, making him the 36th-best player in South Africa by the official rankings.

Jayden Schaper also had a good boost from his share of fifth in the DP World Tour’s Austrian Alpine Open. He got himself above Robin Williams into 10th on the South African list, up 22 places into 234th as Williams dropped four sports to 237th. Brandon Stone was up 14 places to 244th after his share of 11th in Austria.

South Africa’s top three players on the official rankings all dropped last week: Christiaan Bezuidenhout was down two to 67th, Erik van Rooyen was down one to 74th, and Thriston Lawrence was down one to 91st.
