After opening with a bogey on Saturday, Ashleigh Buhai went on to finish off the Paris Olympics golf competition with a two-under-par 70 to finish in a share of 13th at Le Golf National.

Buhai made three birdies after that start on the front none, and them made a birdie and a bogey on the back nine to move to three-under for the tournament.

That put her seven strokes behind the gold medal winner, Lydia Ko of New Zealand, who added to her collection of silver from 2016 and bronze from 2021. Ko’s closing one-under-par 71 gave her a two-stroke edge over surprise silver medallist, Esther Henseleit of Germany. Xiyu Lin pf China won the bronze medal, one stroke behind Henseleit.

Buhai’s second and third rounds of one-over 73 and two-over 74 hamstrung her efforts to win a medal.

Paule Reto, the other South African in the field, closed with a level-par 72 to finish in a share of 44th on 11-over-par. Her opening round of 78 proved too difficult to completely overcome, and she carded a second-round 73 and 76 in the third round as she chased the game from the beginning.
