Ashleigh Buhai rocketed 38 places up the leaderboard on Saturday with a superb six-under-par 66 lifting her into a share of 11th ahead of the final round of the first women’s major championship of the year, the Chevron Championship.
Buhai, the reigning AIG Women’s Open champion, made seven birdies and just a single bogey at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas, and put herself just four shots off the lead. Up front, Americans Allisen Corpuz and Angel Lin were on 10-under-par, one ahead of Korean Amy Yang, Albane Valenzuela of Switzerland and Megan Khang of the United States.
Buhai, who also holds the Australian Women’s Open and South African Women’s Open titles, had the second-best score of the day, with only Yang going one better, as the Korean’s 65 saw her climb 19 places into her share of third.
