Christiaan Burke extended his lead to two strokes on Thursday in the second round of the Bushveld Tour’s Race to Q-School Wanna Be a Champion Series #3 at State Mines Golf Club with a six-under-par 66.
That took him to 14-under through 36 holes, and he was still in front of the same man he led after the first round, Robin Williams. Once again, Williams was outscored by one, and he finished on 12-under ahead of the final round of the 54-hole event.
Both were outscored by Ricky Hendler, who had a stunning 10-under-par 62 with three eagles and four birdies which saw him move into third place on 11-under. Two strokes behind Hendler on nine-under in a share of fourth were Philip Geerts, Jason Froneman and Sentiano Minnie.
As he did in the first round, Burke had a bogey on his card after starting relatively quietly with three birdies on the front nine. He dropped a shot on the 16th after had picked up four more birdies after the turn, but he had done more than enough to stay in front.
