Burmester 42nd heading into last round of PGA Championship

In difficult rainy conditions on Saturday, Dean Burmester managed a two-over-par 72 in the third round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, to climb six places on the leaderboard.

Burmester, one of two South Africans remaining in the field after the cut – the other is Thriston Lawrence – moved to a share of 42nd with a birdie and three bogeys. He was at six-over for the championship heading into the final round, 12 strokes off the lead.

The lead was held by Brooks Koepka, who had a superb four-under-par 66 for the second round in a row. At six-under, he was one clear of Viktor Hovland of Norway, who bogeyed the last hole to drop out of a share of the lead with his third-round level-par 70. Hovland shared second with Corey Conners of Canada, and Bryson DeChambeau was in fourth. Justin Rose and Scottie Scheffler shared fifth on two-under, while Rory McIlroy lined up a possible Sunday charge with jis one-under 69 taking him to one-under and seventh place.

Lawrence had a three-over 73 in the third round to slip four places on the leaderboard into a share of 52nd on seven-over. He made two birdies and five bogeys.
