Dean Burmester closed with a bogey-free five-under-par 67 on Sunday in LIV Golf Adelaide at The Grange Golf Course and moved to 14-under-par for the tournament to finish in eighth place.

Burmester started his round on the second in the shotgun start, and he picked up his first birdie on the seventh for his only gain on the front nine. He made four more on the back nine, on the 10th, 13th, 16th and 17th. He finished five shots behind the winner, Talor Gooch of the United States, who closed with a one-over 73 after two rounds of 10-under each had put him in an almost unassailable position heading in to the final round of the 54-hole event. In the end, Gooch won by three from India’s Anirban Lahiri, and he was a further shot clear of countryman Patrick Reed in third.

Local heron Cameron Smith closed with a six-under to move to 15-under and fourth. Cameron Tringale and Pat Perez of the US were also on 15-under and were in fifth and sixth respectively.

Peter Uihlein was on 14-under with Burmester, but in seventh, and Burmester’s Stinger GC teammate Charl Schwartzel closed with a four-under 68 to also be on 14-under and in ninth.

Louis Oosthuizen had a closing two-over 74 to finish on 12-under in 18th, and Branden Grace also had a two-over to finish in 41st on three-under.

The all-South African Stinger GC finished third in the team contest on 44-under, just three behind the winners, 4 Aces GC with Reed, Uihlein, Dustin Johnson and Perez making up that team.
