Chris Cannon of England headed the 10 Sunshine Tour qualifiers into the Joburg Open on Tuesday when he carded a six-under-par 65 on the Bushwillow course at Randpark Golf Club.

Cannon eagled the par-four 11th to counteract a bogey he made on the 10th, and he made five birdies as he edged out Rupert Kaminski, Dayne Moore of Zambia and Jacques P de Villiers who each finished on five-under-par.

Hennie O’Kennedy, Jason Smith and Ruan Korb were on four-under in a share of fifth, while Luca Filippi, Malcolm Mitchell and Heinrich Bruiners made up the rest of the top 10 after edging out Gideon van der Vyver in a four-way play-off for the final places.

Notables who missed out on making it into the main draw included Anton Haig, Peter Karmis, Tristen Strydom and 2018 Eye of Africa PGA champion Matias Calderon of Chile.
