England’s Chris Cannon played his way into the Alfred Dunhill Championship on Monday, carding a seven-under-par 65 at ERPM Golf Club to lead 10 players into the main draw of the European Tour and Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned tournament which gets underway this week.
After making two birdies and a bogey on his opening nine, Cannon raced home in 30, with six more birdies to share the top of the leaderboard with Louis Albertse.
Andrew van der Knaap and Tristen Strydom were on six-under, with Albert Venter, Stefan Wears-Taylor, Teaghan Gauche and Sean Bradley on five-under.
Clinton Grobler, Michael Hollick, Riekus Nortje, Desne van den Bergh and Malcolm Mitchell all finished on four-under, and had to endure a play-off to find which two would get the final two spots for the first-round tee-off at Leopard Creek on Thursday. Hollick and Nortje were the pair to get through.
