Deon Germishuys closed with his best round of the week on Sunday, his five-under-par 66 giving him a share of 15th in the DP World Tour’s Soudal Open at Rinkven International Golf Clun in Antwerp, Belgium.
It was a bogey-free final round for Germishuys, as he picked up just one shot on the front nine, but made four birdies, including two in a row to close, on his way to a 72-hole total of 10-under-par. That put him seven strokes behind the winner, Simon Forsstrom of Sweden. Forsstrom had a closing two-under 69 to reach 17-under, which was enough to hold off countryman Jens Dantorp by a single shot after Dantorp had a 67 to finish.
Germishuys’ performance projected him to 114th on the Race to Dubai rankings, a climb of 14 places and into a position from which a few more solid finishes can help him inside the top 100 and certain of his playing privileges for the following year.
Hennie du Plessis closed with a level-par 71 and was in a share of 38th on six-under, one ahead of Wilco Nienaber, who closed with a one-over 72 for a share of 41st. With Nienaber on five-under for the week were Zander Lombard and Thomas Aiken, and Justin Walters was a shot back.
