Deon Germishuys eagled 18 on Sunday to finish in a share of ninth in the DP World Tour’s Magical Kenya Open at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi as he finished up with a two-under-par 69.

Germishuys had made a birdie on the fourth and a bogey on the 16th before finihing with a flourish to seal a top-10 finish one nine-under-par for the week. He was five strokes behind the winner, Darius van Driel of the Netherlands, who carded a four-under-par 67 to finish on 14-under. That was two shots clear of runners-up Joe Dean of England and Spain’s Nacho Elvira.

The performance gave Germishuys a good boost up the Race to Dubai rankings where he is projected to jump 23 places to 73rd.

One shot further back was Ryan van Velzen, who recovered from two-over early on in his final round to get to level-par. That put him in a share of 11th place on a total of eight-under-par. Sharing that spot with him was, amongst others, Jacques Kruyswijk, who closed with a four-under-par 67.

Thriston Lawrence opened with a bogey, but followed that two holes later with five successive birdies to get himself into contention. But he followed that run with a double-bogey on eight and another on 18. Although he made two more birdies on 10 and 11, those double-drops cost him and he finished with a two-under-par 69. That put him in a share of 19th on seven-under.

Thomas Aiken closed with a 66 for a share of 23rd on six-under, while Louis de Jager and Pieter Moolman were a shot back in a share of 36th. Casey Jarvis was in a share of 42nd on four-under.
