George Coetzee wasn’t the only one on Friday who battled to stay in touch with the lead despite a good second round in the DP World Tour’s Cazoo French Open.

Coetzee carded a five-under-par 66 with six birdies and a bogey to move to third place on his own at eight-under through 36 holes. He was one stroke off second place which was held by France’s Paul Barjon, but both were a long way behind the superb Dane Rasmus Hojgaard. He had a six-under-par 65 in the second round to move to 15-under for the tournament, six shots in front.

Thriston Lawrence had a four-under-par 67 in the second round to climb into the top 10. At five-uncer, he was in a share of seventh with last week’s winner, Robert MacIntyre.

Hennie du Plessis was on two-under in a share of 34th after a four-under 67, while Zander Lombard had a one-over 72 to slip to a share of 347th on one-under.

Daniel van Tonder, Wilco Nienaber, Darren Fichardt, Louis de Jager, Richard Sterne, Brandon Stone, Haydn Porteous and Oliver Bekker all missed the cut.
