Estiaan Conradie made a birdie at the last hole on Tuesday at the qualifying event at Waterkloof Golf Club as he assured himself of a place in this week’s Sunshine Tour and HotelPlanner Tour co-sanctioned MyGolfLife Open hosted by Pecanwood.

Conradie made nine birdies and two bogeys in his seven-under-par 65, and that put him level with Therion Nel, who had a back-nine of six-under 30 to reach seven-under. That included three birdies in a row to round things off.

The pair was a shot clear of Sean Cronje and Scotland’s Craig Ross, with Jean-Paul Strydom, Rhys West, Keegan Thomas, Colin Nel and Werner Deyzel on five-under-par in a share of fifth.

With three players on four-under in a share of 10th, there was a three-for-one play-off from which Joe Long of England emerged. He eliminated South Africans Samuel Simpson and veteran Brandon Pieters.

Among the notables to miss out were Jaco Prinsloo and Ross McGowan who had rounds of three-under, Jake Redman, Kyle McClatchie and Callum Mowat on two-under, and Merrick Bremner, Mauritian Pierre Pellegrin, Keelan van Wyk and Ruan de Smidt who all carded one-under-par.

The main tournament tees off on Thursday.
