Adilson Da Silva’s purple patch of form continued on Thursday as he opened the Legends Tour’s Sergio Melpignano Senior Italian Open at San Domenico Golf in Brindisi, Italy with a seven-under-par 65.
His bogey-free first round had him in third place on his won behind the English duo of Andrew Raitt and Order of Merit leader Peter Baker. Da Silva was a shot clear of four players on six-under-par, while South Africa’s Keith Horne was on five-under in a share of eighth.
James Kingston was on three-under in a share of 24th, while Chris Williams had a level-par 72 for a share of 47th.
Da Silva started his round on the 10th, and he made five of his seven birdies on his opening nine. Things quietened down a little on his homeward nine, but he picked up two more shots to put himself in a position to push for what would be his fourth win of the season on the circuit after he scooped the rookie of the year award in his maiden season last year.
