MJ Daffue raced home with a six-under-par 65 on Sunday to finish in a share of fourth in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Lake Charles Championship in Louisiana and climb two spots on the tour’s points ranking to 12th.
While his seven birdies and a bogey made for an impressive round, it was only the second-best of the day as the winner Trevor Werbylo carded an eight-under 63 to finish on 18-under for the week. He then defeated Korea’s Seonghyeon Kim in a sudden-death play-off that last three holes. Eric Cole of the United States was in third on 15-under, while Daffue was on 14-under with Anders Albertson.
Daffue opened with three consecutive birdies, but he dropped a shot on the fourth. He made two more birdies on the front nine on the sixth and the ninth, and then two more on 14 and 18.
It was a round which could have been even better if he’d been able to accurate off the tee as he had been over the first two rounds: He hit just four of 14 fairways, but managed to hit 12 of the 18 greens in regulation, and putted well to keep himself on the upper reaches of the leaderboard.
