MJ Daffue kept climbing the leaderboard on Saturday when he carded a third round of four-under-par 68 in the Korn Ferry Tour’s The Ascendant tournament in Berthoud, Colorado.
Daffue, who is already assured of winning his PGA Tour card at the end of the Korn Ferry Tour season, climbed nine places to 17th after opening rounds on one-under 71 and two-under 72. At seven-under through 54 holes, he’s five shots off the lead which is at 12-under, and shared by Zecheng Dou of China, and Americans Ryan McCormick and Dawson Armstrong. They lead by one from China’s Carl Yuan, Brandon Matthews of the United States and Argentine Augusto Nunez.
Daffue made seven birdies and three bogeys in his round. His opening nine was bogey-free with three birdies, but he got busy on the homeward nine with just two pars on his card in between four birdies and three bogeys.
He is currently fifth in the Korn Ferry Tour rankings, and projected to drop to sixth with his present position. But he has already reached what is considered a ‘fail-safe’ number to get one of 25 PGA Tour cards at the end of the season.
