South Africa’s MJ Daffue opened the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, on Thursday with a three-under-par 68 to be in a share of 45th after the first round was suspended due to darkness.
Daffue, who has been in consistent form through the early tournaments on the tour’s 2022 schedule, made four birdies and a bogey, and will go into the second round five strokes off the lead which was held by Thomas Walsh of the United States on eight-under-par 63. Walsh led by one from countryman Zack Fischer, China’s Zecheng Dou and Albin Doi of Canada.
Daffue’s bogey came when he failed to reach the green in regulation from the fairway on the par-four 18th, his closing hole of the day.
