MJ Daffue (pictured right) came through ‘golf’s longest day’ on Monday when he fired a 36-hole total of seven-under-par 133 at Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio, to play his way into the US Open on June 16.

Daffue shared medallist honours with Brian Stuard after rounds of three-under 67 and four-under 66 put the pair two shots clear of Beau Hossler and amateur Maxwell Moldovan.

There were nine such qualifiers in the United States and Canada on Monday, and Daffue was the only South African to make it through.

Thomas Aiken missed out at the Club at Admiral’s Cove in Jupiter, Florida and Christiaan Bezuidenhout was two shots out of qualifying in Columbus, Ohio.
