MJ Daffue kept himself in a great position on Saturday to have a crack at winning his first title on the Korn Ferry Tour when he carded a five-under-par 66 in the third round of the Pinnacle Bank Championship in Omaha, Nebraska.
Daffue, who has already all but qualified to play on the PGA Tour next season thanks to a stellar year on the Korn Ferry Tour, made four birdies on the front nine, and he had two birdies and a bogey on his way in to reach 11-under for the tournament. That put him in fourth place, one behind the lead which was shared at 13-under by England’s Ben Taylor and Americans Philip Knowles and Taylor Montgomery. Taylor had a superb nine-under 62, Knowles carded a seven-under 64 and Montgomery was five-under at 66 for his third round.
Daffue is in contention despite being somewhat wayward off the tee, and not as accurate as he’d like to be approaching the greens. If he gets those stats trending in the right direction for the final round, he could go on and seal his graduation to the PGA Tour with a victory.
As things stand right now, he is projected to rise three places in the Korn Ferry Tour rankings to sixth. The top 25 players will earn their PGA Tour cards at the end of the season.
