With eight events to go, Keenan Davidse gave himself a nice leg up on the Challenge Tour rankings with a share of sixth place in the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by the R&A at Newmachar Golf Club in Aberdeenshire.
Davidse rounded out his week with a four-under-par 67 in the final round to move to 11-under for the tournament, and he climbed 30 spots on the Race to Mallorca rankings into 79th. He made seven birdies and three bogeys, and he was four shots off the winner’s score which was 15-under by Sam Bairstow of England. Bairstow held off France’s Romain Wattel by one stroke after both players carded six-under 65s.
The other three South Africans who made the cut had varying degrees of success in their final rounds as all three finished in a share of 32nd on six-under-par. Brandon Stone did the best of them, with his storming finish of seven-under-par 64 seeing him climb 25 places on the leaderboard. JJ Senekal had a level-par 71, while the Challenge Tour number one Casey Jarvis had a one-over 72.
Those three will all maintain their positions on the Race to Mallorca at 10th, 16th and first respectively.
