Kyle de Beer opened up with an eagle on Monday on his way to a five-under-par 67 in the first round of the Bushveld Tour’s Bushveld Series #4 at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington’s East Course.
De Beer also made six birdies and three bogeys as he took a one-stroke lead over Francois van der Walt and Otto van Buynder in the 54-hole tournament. A further shot back on three-under were Matt Saulez, amateur Gary Kemp, Ruan Groenewald and Jordan Duminy.
De Beer dropped a shot immediately after the opening eagle, but he had three birdies and another bogey as he turned in three-under 34. There were three birdies and a bogey for him on the homeward nine.
The players who are second and third respectively on the Order of Merit, Willem Swart and Rigardt Albertse, were in a share of ninth after opening rounds of one-under-par 71.
