Although he made an eagle on the 15th on Sunday in the final round of the DP World Tour’s and Ladies European Tour’s Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed at Ullna Golf & Country Club outside Stockholm in Sweden, Louis de Jager still managed to finish in a share of 12th.
It was a topsy-turvy final round for the South African, who also made five birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey on his way to a two-under-par 70 and 11-under-par for the tournament. Englishman Dale Whitnell was a comfortable three-stroke winner over Sean Crocker of the United States after Whitnell’s third-round 61 propelled him clear of the chasing pack. He closed with a 70, which was enough to trump Crocker’s 65.
The leading woman in the tournament, which was won last year by Sweden’s Linn Grant, was Anne van Damme of the Netherlands, who carded a closing three-under-par 69 to finish the tournament in a share of third place with Germany’s Yannick Paul on 15-under-par, six strokes behind Whitnell.
De Jager’s eagle came as he hit his approach to inside 11 feet after a 309-yard tee-shot. But he had hit his tee shot on the previous hole, a par-three, into the water. He missed a putt for bogey from just outside three feet from his second attempt and took s five.
Justin Walters also had a closing level-par 70 to finish in a share of 21st on 10-under-par. Oliver Bekker had a level-par 72 in the final round to finish on level-par for the tournament in a share of 59th, while Nicole Garcia battled to a closing five-over 77, a total of five-over and a 70th-place finish.
Zander Lombard and Casandra Alexander missed the cut.
