Four birdies on the front nine gave Louis de Jager the kind of start he wanted on Friday, and his second-round five-under-par 67 put him in a share of the halfway lead of the DP World Tour’s Andalucía Masters at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande in San Roque, Spain.

De Jager picked up two more on the back nine, but a bogey on the 15th saw him slip back into a three-way share of the lead on nine-under-par with Spaniard Adrian Otaegui and Korea’s Jeong weon Ko. They were one ahead of Daniel Hillier of New Zealand, with six players on seven-under in a share of fourth.

If De Jager is able to hold on to a spot in the upper reaches of this leaderboard, he gives himself a shot at getting into the field of the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

Easing his way into the top 20 was South African Open champion Thriston Lawrence, who carded a three-under-par 69 to move to four-under and a share of 19th.

Deon Germishuys had a level-par 72 to stay at two-under for the tournament. He was in a share of 44th with, amongst others, South Africa’s best performer in the first round, Zander Lombard. Lombard slipped to a two-over 74.

Ockie Strydom, Oliver Bekker, JC Ritchie, Justin Walters, Daniel van Tonder, Hennie du Plessis and Bryce Easton all missed the cut.
