Louis de Jager twice dropped shots on Friday after making impressive runs of three birdies in a row, but it was the double bogey after the second run which cost him most in the second round of the DP World Tour’s Soudal Open at Rinkven International Golf Club in Antwerp, Belgium.
De Jager made double-bogey six on the 18th after getting his total to eight-under ahead of the 36th hole, and had to settle for a two-under-par 69 after he made six birdies and two bogeys in addition to that double-drop. At six-under for the tournament, he was in a share of 23rd.
Up front, Nacho Elvira of Spain carded a bogey-free seven-under-par 64 on a rainy day to move to 14-under and a one-stroke lead over Ross Fisher, who was as impressive with his bogey-free 63. Frenchman Romain Langasque was in third on 11-under-par.
Brandon Stone bounced back from an ordinary opening round with a second-round six-under-par 65 to move to four-under and a share of 46th together with, amongst others, Darren Fichardt who rode a string of five consecutive birdies early in his round to a five-under 66. Zander Lombard was also on four-under after his second round of two-under 69.
Jaco Prinsloo, Thriston Lawrence, Jayden Schaper and Justin Harding all made the cut on the number of two-under in a share of 61st. Prinsloo and Schaper had rounds of level-par, Lawrence went one-over and Harding came good with a four-under 67.
