Ruan De Smidt dropped just a single shot on Wednesday on his way to a closing five-under-par 67 at Krugersdorp Golf Club, and then he won a sudden-death play-off to take the title in the Bushveld Tours Srixon Series #5.
De Smidt went into the final round in a share of fourth place on four-under-par, four strokes off the lead. He was also two shots behind amateur Daniel Cronje, with whom he contested the play-off.
But, after his opening round of one-over 73, he had made a move in the second round with a five-under 67, and was clearly on a mission.
In the final round, he went out with five birdies on the front nine to turn in 32, and a birdie on 12 put him in touch with the lead at 10-under. But he dropped a shot on the 15th, and Cronje faltered with bogeys on 13 and 15 as they both fell back to nine-under.
Then De Smidt pulled off the win on the first extra hole.
Simon du Plooy and amateurs Hannes Strooh and Jere Brits were in a share of third, three strokes back.
