For the second time in three attempts, Jacques P de Villiers led the qualifiers into a Sunshine Tour and Challenge Tour co-sanctioned tournament – this time into the SDC Open, when he carded an eight-under-par 64 at Benoni Country Club on Tuesday.
He made an eagle, eight birdies and two bogeys, and that put him three shots clear of Andre de Decker, Chris Cannon of England and James Kamte. Shaahid Mahmd of Zimbabwe was fifth on four-under, and, on three-under-par, Samuel Simpson, Matthew Spacey, Toto Thimba Jnr, Divan van den Heever and Dean O’Riley made up the balance of the 10 players through into the main draw at Zebula Golf Estate & Spa.
Narrowly missing out were Jovan Rebula, Franklin Manchest, Dayne Moore of Zambia, and England’s Harry Konig. They all carded two-under-par 70.
