Werner Deyzel completed a remarkable fourth victory in the series on Wednesday when he won the Bushveld Tour’s Race to Q-School #11 at Waterkloof Golf Club by two strokes.
Deyzel, who is a runaway leader in the series Order of Merit with 321.83 points, more than 100 points clear of second-placed Eric Wowor – there are 70 points for a victory – carded a third successive round in the 60s in the final round to finish on 15-under-par.
His closing four-under-par 68 put him three strokes clear of second-placed Slade Pickering, who closed with a two-under 70. Stals Swart and Ruan Groenewald shared third on 12-under-par, and Wowor and Reece McKain shared fifth on 11-under.
Deyzel opened the tournament with an eight-under-par 64 together with Jordan Duminy, and when he carded a 69 in the second round, he set himself up for a charge to victory.
He opened the final round with birdies on one and two, but he dropped a shot on the third. He put that behind him with a sparkling run of four successive birdies from the fifth to the eighth. Although he dropped three shots on his way home, he had done the heavy lifting already, and two more birdies saw him home safely.
Deyzel won twice on the series in January, and again in February. This fourth victory goes with two top 10s and two top 20s, with a worst finish of a share of 18th in his eight starts.
There are two more tournaments left in the series next week and the week after, ahead of the Q-School Preview on April 7 and the Tour Championship on May 2.
